A Complete Guide to the Inspection and Certification Process of Lighting Products

With the advancement of science and technology, there are a wide variety of lighting products available. During the inspection process, the inspectors should conduct the tests from the following aspects to ensure that the products meet the requirements of safety inspection and certification.
(1) Appearance Identification (Inspection Basis)
① Markings on the灯具
The inspector should first examine the markings on the lamps, such as the trademark, model, rated voltage, rated power, etc., to determine if they comply with the usage specifications. Safety of the markings is a basic requirement for the safety performance of the lamps, and the rated power is particularly important. For example, a lamp designed for 40 watts, if it does not have a marked rated power, the user may mistakenly install a 60-watt or 100-watt bulb, causing the shell to deform, insulation damage, and even electric shock or fire. In addition, the standard stipulates that the minimum cross-sectional area of the wires used on the lamps is 0.5 square millimeters. Some manufacturers, in an attempt to reduce costs, use wires smaller than 0.5 square millimeters, which may cause the wires to burn, the insulation layer to burn and short circuit. During inspection, the engraved markings on the outer insulation layer of the wires can be checked.
② Electrical Safety Protection
Attention should be paid to electrical safety protection: After the lamp is powered on, the human body should not come into contact with the live parts. For incandescent lamps (such as ceiling lamps and wall lamps), when the bulb is installed and the lamp is not powered on, touching the live parts with a small finger should not be possible. Then the electrical safety performance is basically in line with the requirements. The common reasons for the failure of electrical safety performance are using lamps with unsuitable lamp holders or not covering the live parts. This item is a disqualification item in the certification process.
(2) Structural Identification (Key Points of Factory Inspection and Testing)
The entrances and exits of the metal tubes through which the wires pass should have no sharp edges to prevent the wires from being cut and causing the metal parts to become electrified, thereby avoiding the risk of electric shock.
For movable lamps such as table lamps and floor lamps, there should be a wire fixing frame at the power cord inlet to prevent the power cord from retracting and touching the heating elements, which could cause the insulation layer to melt, expose the bare wire to come into contact with the metal casing, and lead to electric shock. During the factory inspection, it is necessary to verify whether this structure is in place.
(3) Attachment Verification (Performance Inspection)
Electronic ballasts: Electronic ballasts with abnormal protection functions should be selected. Abnormal protection means that even when there is an abnormal condition in the fluorescent lamp circuit (such as a leak in the lamp tube or rectification effect), the ballast can still work normally or shut down safely. During the inspection, it is necessary to verify whether the ballast has obtained relevant certifications (such as CCC, CE).
Inductor ballast: Check the markings on the ballast and try to choose one with a higher Tw value (such as Tw130). This is especially important when the lamp has poor heat dissipation conditions. Tw is the rated maximum operating temperature of the ballast coil, and it can operate continuously for 10 years at this temperature. During the inspection, make sure the markings are clear and the parameters meet the requirements.
