Tanzania PVOC certification
The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) implements the Pre-Shipment Verification of Conformity (PVOC) scheme to verify that products imported into Tanzania comply with Tanzanian national standards.
The PVOC certificate is a necessary document to ensure the smooth customs clearance of goods in Tanzania. Before transporting to Tanzania, all products on the Tanzania PVOC control catalog list need to apply for mandatory customs clearance documents and certificates of conformity COC before shipment, otherwise they will not be able to clear customs at the port of destination, and the goods arriving at the Tanzanian port will be rejected or fined.
Tanzania PVOC certification is certified by an authorized third-party testing agency, including physical inspection, laboratory testing, document review and factory audit.

3. Tanzania PVOC certification process
Tanzania PVOC certification model is divided into three types according to product type, product nature, shipment frequency and manufacturer's quality management system:
Pathway A – Applies to unregistered products (unregistered suppliers or manufacturers of sensitive goods). Products must be tested and physically inspected to demonstrate compliance with the relevant standards, essential requirements or manufacturer specifications.
Pathway B – For registered suppliers or manufacturers of goods. This route provides a fast certification process for goods with reasonable and consistent quality levels by registering the product with the PVoC contractor. Product registration is recommended for exporters who carry out frequent shipments of homogeneous products.
Pathway C – Licensed products. This route is only for manufacturers who can demonstrate that they have a quality management system in place for their manufacturing/production processes. This route involves any QMS audit and product licensing being conducted by an authorized PVoC contractor. This route is recommended for manufacturers who ship frequently/in large quantities.
