Furniture Inspection | Mattress Inspection Standards and Methods

With the accelerating pace of life and increasing stress, sleep quality has become a global concern, and mattresses are directly related to our physical health and sleep quality. Mattresses come in a variety of materials, each offering different sleeping experiences. How are coconut coir mattresses inspected? How do inspection companies verify the quality of coconut coir mattresses? What are the inspection standards and methods for coir fiber mattresses?

Mattress Inspection-Appearance Inspection

Mattress fabric appearance inspection: Mattress inspection requires that the fabric appearance is free of damage, stains, obvious color difference, no prickly touch on the mattress surface, and no obvious unevenness in softness and hardness.

Appearance inspection of mattress core material: the surface should be flat, with hard bulge height ≤10 mm and pit depth ≤10 m (except process holes); there should be no debris on the surface, no palm stems or undecomposed palm ropes with a length ≥60 mm and a diameter ≥6 mm; there should be no crust formed by adhesive coagulation with an area larger than 50 mm*50 mm on the surface of the core material; the core material should remain intact without dislocation.

Mattress Inspection - Sewing and Seam Inspection

Mattress sewing requirements: The tightness of the fabric seams is basically consistent; the length of a single floating thread is ≤15 mm, and the cumulative length of floating thread is ≤50 mm; there is no thread breakage; single stitch skipping is ≤10; double stitch skipping is ≤5; 3 or more consecutive skipping stitches are not allowed.

Mattress seam requirements: The seam should be straight; the arcs on all sides should be even and symmetrical; there should be no exposed edges; no broken threads; no missed stitches ≤ 5; the cumulative length of floating threads ≤ 50 mm.

Mattress Inspection-Dimensional Measurement Requirements

The inspector measures the size of the sampled mattress with a tape measure as required.

Mattress inspection size deviation requirements: length L: (-10, +10); width W: (-10, +10); height H: (-5, +15); diagonal difference: single ≤15 double ≤20.

Mattress Inspection-Physical Performance Requirements

Physical performance requirements for mattress fabrics and composite fabrics: Fabric weight/(g/m3): ≥60; Foam plastic density in composite fabrics/(kg/m): ≥15; Friction resistance color fastness: dry rubbing ≥ level 3.

Mattress core material performance requirements: density/(g/m3): 180≥p≥60; moisture content: ≤15%; compression permanent deformation rate: ≤12%

Mattress Inspection-Safety and Hygiene Requirements

- No fleas, mites, bed bugs or other insects or their eggs should be detected; no cockroach egg traps should be detected; and no signs of insect infestation should be detected;

- Pathogenic bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and hemolytic Streptococcus should not be detected;

- The core material should not be made of waste materials and should not be mixed with plastic woven materials, straw, wood shavings, paper eyebrows, mud, sand or metal;

-The core material shall not be rotten, mildewed or moldy;

- The batting fibers used should not be bleached;

- Fabrics and composite fabrics should not be made from medical fiber waste, waste fiber products, or other similar contaminated materials;

- Fabrics and composite fabrics should not be moldy or deteriorate;

-The limits of harmful substances in mattresses should comply with relevant standards.

Mattress Inspection-Function Test

1. Drop test

Perform drop test according to ISTA 1A standard. After 10 drops, the product and packaging should have no fatal or serious problems.

2. Needle inspection

Subject mattress samples to the needle detection test.

3. Odor test

Place the mattress sample 1 inch from your nose and smell its odor; there should be no unusual odor.

4. Color fastness inspection

Use white cotton cloth to rub the mattress for 10 cycles, there should be no problem.

5. Vertical static force test

Apply a loading pad (rigid cylindrical object with a diameter of 100 mm, a smooth hard surface and rounded corners with a radius of 12 mm) to apply a force of 1400 N at the center of the mattress for 1 minute without causing damage, deformation or other damage.
