How to inspect outdoor tables and chairs? Outdoor tables and chairs inspection test list
1. Definition and classification of outdoor furniture
-
Commercial outdoor furniture (Contract Use) refers to furniture used in public places such as restaurants, hotels, swimming pools, and tourist resorts. Due to its high frequency of use and high intensity, it must have high pressure resistance and durability.
-
Domestic Use: used in private gardens, balconies, terraces and other home outdoor environments.
-
Camping Use: It is portable, foldable, easy to disassemble, and has a lightweight structure. It is suitable for camping, traveling, fishing, beaches, and other activities.
2. Routine inspection and test items
-
Assembly inspection: Assemble step by step according to the product manual to confirm that all accessories are complete, the steps are reasonable, and the installation is stable.
-
Static pressure test:
-
Camping chair: 110 kg force applied to the seat for 1 hour;
-
Home chair: 160 kg force applied to the seat surface for 1 hour;
-
Camping table: 50 kg force applied to the center of the tabletop;
-
Household tables: Apply 75 kg of force to the center of the tabletop. If the tabletop is longer than 160 cm, apply force to the longitudinal axis at a point 40 cm on either side of the transverse axis.
-
-
Chair impact test:
-
European standard: A 25 kg weight is dropped freely from a specified height to impact the center of the seat surface 10 times;
-
US Standard: One impact with a 102.3 kg (225 lb) weight from a height of 15.2 cm (6 inches).
After testing, the product should not have any structural damage, breakage or detachment that affects its function or safety. Slight deformation is allowed but does not affect normal use.
-
-
Children's furniture testing: Load and impact testing is generally conducted at half the adult standard. If a product claims a load capacity greater than half an adult's weight, the test will be conducted at the maximum claimed load capacity.
-
Moisture content testing: for wooden parts.
-
Coating adhesion test: Use 3M tape to test the adhesion of the paint film and coating.
-
Sampling quantity: Normally 5 pieces per model. If multiple products are being inspected at the same time, the number may be reduced to at least 2 pieces per model.
3. Table stability test (Europe)
-
Measure the maximum size of the tabletop (L, for a rectangular table, take the long side);
-
Determine the force (F) based on the size;
-
Apply force F on the side of the table most likely to tip over, as far away from the supporting structure as possible and 50 mm from the outer edge of the table;
-
Check to see if the table has tipped over.
4. Table static pressure test (Europe and the United States)
-
Europe: Apply load according to corresponding standards based on desktop size and use;
-
United States: There is no unified standard, and it is often implemented according to customer requirements. If there are no specific requirements, refer to the following:
a) Non-glass tabletop:-
Dining table/lounge table (≥4 square feet): concentrated static pressure 300 pounds;
-
Coffee table/side table (<4 square feet): 50 pounds;
b) Glass tabletop: -
Dining table/lounge table: 100 pounds;
-
Coffee table/children's table/side table: 50 pounds;
-
-
The position of the force application point is the same as that specified in "II.2";
-
The load is maintained for 1 hour, and the structure is checked for damage, collapse, or loosening.
5. Chair Stability Test (Static Load, Europe and the United States)
-
Europe: Determine the force application location based on the number of seats (single/double seat: each seat; three-seater: one end and the middle; four or more seats: adjacent two ends and the middle), and apply the corresponding weight for one hour.
-
United States: 136.4 kg (300 lb) static pressure for 1 hour is commonly used;
-
Check for structural damage or collapse.
6. Precautions for outdoor furniture inspection
-
Check that the quantity and size of accessories are consistent with the instructions;
-
The inspector must personally participate in the installation. Factory workers are not allowed to complete it independently. Pay attention to the alignment of the holes. The screws must be tightened and then loosened to test the fit.
-
For tubular parts, tap lightly to check if any residual rust falls off;
-
After assembly, place it on flat ground to test stability:
-
Chairs: A gap of less than 4mm and no shaking when sitting is acceptable; 4–6mm and no shaking is a minor problem, shaking is a serious problem; >6mm is always a serious problem;
-
Table: A clearance of less than 2mm and no shaking when pressed is acceptable; a clearance of 2mm or more or shaking is a serious problem. Adjustable tables are not a problem if they are stable after adjustment.
-
-
For metal parts, focus on welding quality to avoid cold welding and burrs;
-
Check whether the plastic bottom covers of the table and chair legs are firmly installed;
-
The surface of the stressed plastic parts should not turn white (a sign of material deterioration);
-
When assembling a table, pay attention to whether there is color difference between the legs and between the legs and the edge of the table top;
-
The color of rattan furniture should be uniform, and the ends should be hidden inside and not exposed in easily accessible places;
-
The actual size and function of the product must be consistent with the packaging label;
-
For connected picnic tables and chairs, static load tests must be conducted on both the seat and the tabletop, and the impact test must also include the seat;
-
Chairs with woven or fabric seats must not touch the metal frame or support rods when sitting.
