Appliance Inspection | Humidifier Inspection Standards and Methods

Humidifiers can effectively regulate air humidity, prevent dryness, prevent and treat diseases, nourish the skin, protect furniture, etc. Whether it is winter in the south or the north, in the office, home, or car, humidifiers are the best companions to heating and air conditioning.

1. The core goal of humidifier inspection

Ensure that products meet safety, functionality, durability and regulatory requirements , focusing on the following aspects:

  • Electrical safety (anti-electric shock, overheating, leakage, etc.)

  • Performance verification (humidification efficiency, water volume control, noise, etc.)

  • Material and chemical compliance (non-toxic, no release of hazardous substances)

  • User experience (ease of operation, accuracy of instructions)

2. Key inspection items

(1) Appearance and structure inspection

  • Shell quality : no scratches, deformation, even seams, clear markings.

  • Water tank sealing : no leakage after filling with water, and the lid is closed firmly.

  • Accessories integrity : filter, remote control (if any), power cord, etc. are complete.

(2) Electrical safety test

  • Insulation resistance : Moisture test ≥ 2MΩ.

  • Ground continuity : resistance ≤ 0.1Ω (Class I electrical appliances).

  • Withstand voltage test : high voltage 1500V/1min without breakdown.

  • Anti-dry-burn protection : Automatically cut off the power when there is no water (ultrasonic type needs to be checked carefully).

(3) Performance testing

  • Humidification capacity : measured value ≥ 90% of the nominal value (e.g. nominal value is 300ml/h, measured value must be ≥ 270ml/h).

  • Water level control : Sensitive automatic shutdown function (power failure when water level is too low or water tank is removed).

  • Noise : Operating noise ≤ nominal value + 3dB(A), usually required to be ≤40dB (sleep mode).

(4) Materials and chemical safety

  • Water tank material : must be food grade plastic (such as PP, ABS), without irritating odor.

  • Antibacterial function (as claimed): The antibacterial rate of the filter or water tank is ≥90% (test report required).

  • Ozone release (ionization): concentration ≤ 0.05ppm.

(5) User experience and functionality

  • Operation interface : buttons/touch screen are sensitive and mode switching is smooth.

  • Humidity sensor : The error between displayed and actual humidity is ≤±5% (if equipped with intelligent adjustment function).

  • App/remote control function (if applicable): The connection is stable and the command response is timely.

3. Common Defects and Risks

  • Water leakage problem : water tank design defects or aging of the sealing ring.

  • Electrical failure : Insufficient waterproofing of the circuit board causes a short circuit.

  • False claims : The actual humidification capacity or antibacterial performance does not meet the standards.

  • Hazardous substances : Low-quality plastics release VOCs (volatile organic compounds).

4. Inspection process

  1. Sampling : Sampling according to AQL 2.5 standard or customer requirements.

  2. Unpacking inspection : Check the completeness of the packaging, instructions, and accessories.

  3. Power-on test : operation in each gear and verification of automatic protection functions.

  4. Safety test : grounding, withstand voltage, leakage current, etc.

  5. Performance spot check : laboratory retest of humidification capacity, noise, etc. (if necessary).

  6. Report issuance : Provide a graphic inspection report and mark any unqualified items.

5. Applicable standards and regulations

  • China : GB 4706.1 (General safety of household appliances), GB 4706.48 (Special requirements for humidifiers).

  • International : UL 998 (US), EN 60335 (EU), PSE (Japan).
