Children's luggage inspection standards and methods
Children's luggage (including backpacks, school bags, trolley cases, etc.) is designed for children under 14 years old. Its inspection must strictly follow the national mandatory standard "General Technical Specifications for Children's Luggage" to ensure safety, durability and chemical compliance. Children's luggage is divided into three categories based on the age of use:
-
Category I (infants under 36 months)
-
Category II (children aged 36 months to under 6 years)
-
Category III (children aged 6 to under 14 years)
Inspection standards cover multiple aspects including appearance quality, chemical properties, physical and mechanical properties, ergonomic requirements, etc., as follows:
1. Appearance quality inspection
Through visual inspection, sensory inspection and ruler (gradation value 1mm) inspection under natural light, the requirements are as follows:
-
Overall appearance : the package body is full, the curve is natural, the pasting is flat, symmetrical and correct, the box body is upright and stable without any tilt, and the teeth are straight.
-
Surface material :
-
Fabric : There should be no broken warp, broken weft, skipped threads, stains, etc. on the main parts, and ≤2 minor defects are allowed on the secondary parts.
-
Artificial leather/synthetic leather : no obvious bumps, bumps or marks.
-
Leather/recycled leather : no cracks, no discoloration, no damage to the main parts, and ≤2 inconspicuous marks on the secondary parts.
-
Fur : The fur is smooth and clean, without hooks, shedding, or color changes (except for special effects).
-
Other materials : No cracks, deformation, burns or other defects that may affect use.
-
-
Lining : smooth and neat, without cracks, yarn skipping, rips or loose edges.
-
Box mouth : The gap between the two boxes is ≤2mm, the gap between the cover and the mouth is ≤3mm, the aluminum mouth has no burrs or scratches, and the coating is uniform.
-
Stitches : There shall be no empty stitches, missed stitches or skipped stitches in the main parts, and ≤2 stitches are allowed in the secondary parts (≤2 stitches each).
-
Accessories : Metal plated parts are free of rust and blistering, and plastic parts are evenly coated without any leaks or drips.
-
Standard sample (if applicable): should be consistent with the main body material.
2. Chemical performance test
-
Leather/fur/reconstituted leather : Category I must comply with Category A requirements of GB 20400; Category II/III must comply with Category B requirements.
-
PVC artificial leather : must comply with GB 21550.
-
Textile Materials :
-
The content of Class I formaldehyde, azo dyes and heavy metals must comply with GB 31701 (Class A).
-
Class II/III must comply with GB 18401 (Class B).
-
-
Short-chain chlorinated paraffin (C10~C13) : content <0.15%.
-
Phthalates :
-
Class I: DEHP+DBP+BBP+DIBP<0.1%, DINP+DIDP+DNOP<0.1%.
-
Class II/III: DEHP+DBP+BBP+DIBP<0.1%.
-
3. Physical and mechanical properties test
(1) Color fastness
-
Saliva color fastness (Class I) : Textiles ≥ Grade 4.
-
Color fastness to perspiration (Class II/III) : Textiles ≥ Level 3.
-
Color fastness to rubbing : Leather/artificial leather wet rubbing ≥ level 2/3 (GB/T 40920).
(2) Widget safety
-
Class I : Detachable parts and detached small parts cannot be completely accommodated in the small parts tester and have no sharp edges/points.
(3) Hairball test (Class I)
-
The pulled-off hair balls shall not pass completely through the tester and the detached parts shall not be subjected to the hair ball test.
(4) Circular holes in rigid materials (Class I)
-
Holes that can accommodate 6mm round rods (depth ≥ 10mm) must be able to accommodate 12mm round rods.
(5) Filling materials (Class I)
-
It must not contain sharp objects such as metal pieces and nails, and small particle fillers must ensure that the seams are not exposed.
(6) Clearance of moving parts (Class I/II)
-
The gap that can be inserted into a 5mm round rod must be able to insert a 12mm round rod (to prevent finger pinching).
(7) Traction rope (Class I/II)
-
Removable, width/diameter>12mm.
(8) Sharp edges/points
-
All categories must not have accessible hazardous sharps.
(9) Metal wire/rod
-
After testing, it shall not break to produce sharp points or penetrate the box.
(10) Fatigue resistance of tie rod
-
After the test, there is no deformation, jamming or loosening.
(11) Walking performance (Class III)
-
The wear of the running wheel is ≤2mm, the wheel frame/axle has no deformation, and the pull rod is smooth and not loose.
(12) Oscillation impact performance
-
After the load test, there was no cracking in the box, and the pull rods, locks and connectors were normal and not damaged.
(13) Hard box pressure resistance
-
Class II load-bearing capacity is 20kg, Class III load-bearing capacity is 40kg, and there is no collapse or cracking after 4 hours of pressure.
(14) Lock durability
-
Mechanical password locks, key locks, and electronic locks must be used normally after being tested 200 times, and must not be opened with garbled codes.
(15) Suture strength (Class III)
-
The main load-bearing parts are ≥240N (simple package ≥120N).
(16) Corrosion resistance of hardware
-
The number of corrosion points is ≤3, and the area of each corrosion point is ≤1mm².
(17) Reflective properties
-
The retroreflection coefficient must meet the standard requirements (see the specification for specific values).
4. Ergonomic requirements
The design must conform to the physical characteristics of children (refer to GB/T 26158-2010), ensuring:
-
Geometric adaptability : Shoulder straps and structural dimensions should be matched to age, and age-specific or adjustable designs are recommended.
-
Mechanical load suitability : The load-bearing capacity meets the strength limit of children and reduces the pressure on shoulders and back.
-
Stability : Maintain balance during dynamic use to avoid affecting body posture.
-
Ease of use : Opening and closing, adjustment, and information identification are simple and intuitive, making them easy for children to operate.
