Inspection | How to inspect power tools, power tool inspection process

Inspection scope and standards

1. Product types covered <br>Covering more than 50 categories of commonly used power tools in construction and household use, such as miter saws, chainsaws, band saws, circular saws, electric drills, angle grinders, lawn mowers, nailers, polishers, etc.

2. Core safety standards

  • Globally applicable :

    • IEC 62841 : Safety requirements for hand-held/portable tools and garden machinery.

    • IEC 61029 series : Safety specifications for portable tools (circular saws, grinders, etc.).

    • EN 60745 series : Safety standards for hand-held tools (electric drills, electric saws, etc.).

  • Regional special projects :

    • North America : ANSI B175 (outdoor equipment), ANSI B165.1 (powered brush tools).

    • EU : ISO 11148 (non-electric tools), ISO 8662/EN 28862 (measurement of handle vibration).

3. Key test items

  • Physical safety : vibration control (ISO 8662), interface tolerance (ISO/TS 21108), switch durability (IEC 61058).

  • Electrical safety : high voltage test, ground test, power cord pull test.

  • Performance test : functional operation, speed check, input power/current verification, aging test.

Inspection process and sampling rules

1. Sampling criteria

  • Based on : ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 (single normal sampling).

  • Grade : AQL Level Ⅱ (Fatal defect: 0; Severe defect: ≤1.5%; Minor defect: ≤4.0%).

  • Example : 2725 chainsaws order, 50 pieces are randomly inspected; serious defects are allowed to be ≤2 pieces, and minor defects are ≤5 pieces.

2. On-site inspection process

  • Prerequisite : Product is 100% finished and 80% packed.

  • Four-step test method :

    • ① Appearance and workmanship : Check label integrity (content/symbol/color), surface damage (scratches/deformation), plating/soldering defects, loose assembly, and the integrity of the power cord and casing.

    • ② Quantity and Packaging : Check the order quantity, box label, color box/outer carton specifications, and confirm the material/color/style against the signed sample.

    • ③ Functional testing : 21 key tests are performed, including:

      • Assembly test, full function operation, speed verification;

      • Electrical safety (high voltage/grounding/power line tension);

      • Durability (aging test, transport drop, coating adhesion).

    • ④ Documents and Labels : Review the compliance of barcodes and warning labels, and retain test reports.

Export inspection of power tools must strictly adhere to the target market's safety standards (focused on IEC/EN/ANSI). Appearance, functionality, electrical safety, and packaging are inspected through AQL sampling, with a focus on verifying vibration control, labeling compliance, and key performance indicators. Inspection ensures that the product is fully finished and largely packaged. 21 tests are conducted throughout the entire process, from assembly to burn-in, to ensure that shipment quality meets the requirements of high-end markets such as Europe and the United States.
