Inspection of canvas tote bag: 5 key inspection points to focus on
I. Inspection of Canvas Tote Bags: 5 Key Inspection Points
Part Core Risk How to Conduct Inspection
Fabric Incorrect weight marking, insufficient density, excessive shrinkage rate Weigh the sample with a weight sampler / measure with a weight instrument, compare with the confirmed sample retained data; for cotton canvas, check for pre-shrinkage treatment, and determine the size deviation according to the specification sheet
Color Difference Consistency of left and right pieces, front and back pieces, main body and handle in the same batch Compare using a gray card under D65 standard light source; for plain-colored models, this is particularly sensitive, and if two color grades appear in the same box, it is considered a high-risk situation
Printing/Embroidery Poor adhesion, misalignment, color exposure, strong odor Scrape with a fingernail or stick with a 3M tape and pull up; color fading, sticky are main defects; for dark fabric printing on light-colored fabric, pay special attention to exposed and grayed areas
Seam/Flooring Jumping stitches, floating threads, broken threads, handle opening Follow the specification sheet for stitch spacing (commonly 8–10 stitches/3cm); check the back stitch length at the joint of the handle, reinforcement with a braid; perform 1.5–2 times static load suspension for 30 minutes or weight swinging
Supplementary Materials/Packaging Non-smooth zippers, rusted hardware, barcode errors, mixed colors and sizes, missing desiccant, mismatched outer box labels Inspect each zipper individually for smoothness and self-locking; check the pull force of rivets/magnetic adhesion/D-buckles or pry; verify the components, origin, washing and care symbols of the tags; scan the barcode; compare the packing ratio and label box number one by one
II. How to Determine AQL Sampling
Based on: ISO 2859-1, General Inspection Level II.
Passing Defect Classification for Bags:
Severe Defect: AQL 0
Main Defect: AQL 2.5 (for high-priced items/brand orders, it is often tightened to 1.5)
Minor Defect: AQL 4.0
Example: For a batch of 5000 items, General Inspection Level II → Sample size 200 items; AQL 2.5 → Accept 10, Reject 11; AQL 4.0 → Accept 14, Reject 15.
More important than the AQL numbers is: Write the defect classification table into the inspection standard book before inspection. Color difference, printing offset, thread ends, handle length difference, which are considered major or minor defects, must be determined first.
Two prerequisites:
Real batch quantity: Usually requires 80% or more to be completed and packaged.
Random sampling: The box number is randomly selected by the inspection party, not by the factory to "select good boxes".
III. How to Arrange Inspection Nodes
Node Time Key Points
Initial Production Inspection After material preparation, before production start Inspect fabric, supplementary materials, whether the confirmed sample and process sheet are consistent
Mid-Production Inspection When 20%-30% of the output is completed Inspect semi-finished product seam, printing, size, at this time it is still modifiable
Final Production Inspection After 80% of the packaging is completed AQL sampling for judgment
Container Supervision During Loading At loading time Quantity, outer box condition, stacking, seal number
Suggestion: The final production inspection should be placed 3–5 days before shipment, with an additional 1–2 days for rework and reinspection. For shipping deadlines, remote video inspection can be used for quick confirmation first, and then a site final inspection can be arranged.
IV. Projects that Must be Sent to the Laboratory
Inspection Report ≠ Compliance Certificate, Test Report ≠ Final Product Appearance Qualification. These two matters should be done separately.
Color Fastness: Abrasion (dry rubbing/wet rubbing), water washing, sweat stain, light exposure; commonly use AATCC or ISO 105 series. For dark canvas, if the wet rubbing does not meet the standard, it is the main source of complaints about the coloring of light-colored clothing.
Chemical Compliance Based on Sales Location:
Domestic: GB 18401 (formaldehyde, pH, decomposable carcinogenic aromatic dye, odor, etc.)
EU: REACH Appendix XVII, azo dyes, nickel release, cadmium; fiber label (EU) No 1007/2011; GPSR (EU) 2023/988 Traceability Information and EU Responsible Party.
USA: CPSIA lead and phthalate; children's products require third-party testing and CPC certificates.
V. Common "Edge-Resting" Actions in Factories and Their Responses
Edge-Resting Action Response
Sampling: Place good boxes in the sampling area Box numbers are randomly selected by the inspection party; count the total number of boxes before sampling
Material Replacement: Reduce weight by applying sizing and stretching the fabric Measure the fabric on-site; simply wash it or wipe it with a damp cloth to check the feel and color fading
Tailpiece Defects: Place good goods first and problem goods at the end of the boxes Include tailpiece boxes in the sampling coverage; cross-check the packing list and box numbers
Hidden Defects in Rush Production: Glue/Printing not cured before bagging Monitor production capacity during the middle stage; conduct final inspection and spot check unsealed bulk goods
Poor Report Quality: Only "qualified" is mentioned Require the report to include measured data, defect photos, box numbers, and sampling records
Supplier Action Checklist: Randomly sample boxes, check box numbers against marks, weigh on-site and measure dimensions, take photos with the day's markings, and retain sample and seal numbers.
